The aims of the Biodiversity in Action group are to encourage, improve and support biodiversity within Silden.
We do this by:
- Planting shrubs, trees and perennials that are primarily pollinator friendly but also look nice, in neglected public areas or on private land with the necessary permissions.
- Arranging talks on various wildlife topics to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and the role of all plants & creatures great and small within the greater ecosystem. Our guest speakers are experts in their fields and cover a wide range of topics from bats to badgers, meadows to rivers. Each talk is aimed at inspiring, educating and informing both young and old about the natural world, our local environment and our amazing planet.
- Organising a variety of events that support our aims. For example, Silsden Open Gardens 2024 was not only an opportunity to visit private gardens in Silsden, but also had an emphasis on ‘educating’ visitors about what can be done within individual gardens to encourage wildlife & hence biodiversity.
