The school group works with Silsden Primary school in two ways:

  • Regular grounds work parties. The school moved to a new site overlooking the town in 2022. We are helping to develop the grounds to increase biodiversity and encourage carbon reduction and also enhance the children’s enjoyment of and connection with nature. We run monthly work parties and have helped build vegetable growing beds, erect a polytunnel, planted hedges, and pollinator-friendly plants and shrubs in the grounds. We work closely with the school premises manager and provide advice to the school on the best use of their polytunnel, outdoor classroom areas and forest garden areas.

  • Classroom work. We occasionally work with the children in class, for instance running bird and bat box making workshops, and demonstrating the diversity of insects in the local beck. We also participate in the annual science open day.
