This is one of the 4 points in our Clean Air Proposal. Parking along parts of Kirkgate can contribute to blockages and increased emissions from standing vehicles. Whilst its complete removal might be be counterproductive, because of increased traffic speed, consideration is now being given to a revised parking arrangement involving the removal of some spaces in the more critical locations. It is also recognised that this on street parking does have a benefit for local businesses.
Money will be provided by the house developer Persimmon to carry out a review of the parking along Kirkgate and to deliver traffic calming measures through the town centre to manage traffic speeds. This is to be carried out in conjunction with Bradford Council and it is not yet known what the details of this will be.
The public car parks are often underused and Silsden Town Council has challenged the current charging policy imposed by Bradford Council.
It is hoped that all of these issues can be looked at globally to ensure increased safety and greater amenity for our town centre.
