Biodiversity
The aims of the Biodiversity in Action group are to encourage, improve and support biodiversity within Silsden.
At all times we will be looking for opportunities to improve the biodiversity of Silsden in whatever ways we can. Our aim is to encourage as many pollinators as possible to help mitigate the effects of climate change within our area.
What we do:
- Planting shrubs, trees and perennials that are primarily pollinator friendly but also aesthetically pleasing, in neglected public areas or on private land with the necessary permissions.
- Arranging talks on various wildlife topics to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and the role of all plants & creatures great and small within the greater ecosystem.
- Organising a variety of events that support our aims. For example, Silsden Open Gardens 2024 was not only an opportunity to visit private gardens in Silsden, but also had an emphasis on ‘educating’ visitors about what can be done within individual gardens to encourage wildlife & hence biodiversity.
